January 2017

January 2017 and another year ahead for my fishing exploits. It's been quite a mild winter upto now and I have only had to break the ice once.My final outing of 2016 was to be Heskin Old Hall Fishery,I'd only been once in the year, but if you want a venue that will fish well in the winter months then this is the place to go.

My final session took place on New Years Eve,I chose pool one as this water has plenty of sliver fish in and more times than not always produces a good days fishing.I paid my peg fee at the hut and made my way up the field, I opted for the 1st peg to the left as you go through the gate.

It was quite a nice day for December with 10 degrees on the thermometer and a little bit of sunshine.I set up one swim at a 2 o'clock postion around 10 metres out.I fished dead depth and a few inches off bottom during the day using a 4 x 12 float with a strung out shotting pattern, hoping to catch anything through the layers.

Double pinky was the bait for the day and feeding was cautious to start, once I'd had a few fish I increased the feed a little. It took about 10 minutes for my first bite but after that I was catching regulary and had a bite nearly every put in.Skimmers ,hybrids, roach & perch along with a bonus carp of about 2 1/2 lbs made a bag of 100 fish and a great way to end 2016.

Looking back at 2016 I'd been out most weekends and had some good sport on my club waters and the commercials I had visited.I'd also tried my hand at match fishing and entered a couple of the midweek opens at Partridge Lakes in Culcheth. This is still work in progress, it's not as easy as you would think.

My first session of 2017 was 14th January and back once again to Heskin Old Hall. It's a place were you can go when you've had a few hard sessions on other waters and know that you will catch some fish.Towards the end of 2016 I had fished on my club waters with mixed results, never a blank day but I came close a few times.

Looking forward into this year I'm going to have another go at a few opens down at Partridge Lakes,my goal is to break my best match weight and also break a 100 lb bag. It's a tall order but with a little research and maybe some help from a mate of mine I may be able to achieve my goal

I will have to make more of an effort on venturing out to new waters so that I can do some articles, I only went to three fisheries in 2016 that I had not fished before.I have also been video recording a few of my sessions and I may put a few on youtube. The website has been running for over six years now and I don't know where the time has gone ,I've had a lot of visitors to the site and to everyone who has visited and keeps having a look, thanks a lot for taking the time and I hope you enjoy the site

As ever I always have my camera with me and mangaged to get a photo of a heron waiting to catch his or her tea. I love being out in the open air listening to the birds singing ,watching the rabbits run by & feeding the resident robins with a few freebies.
