Steve's Red Letter Day

June 28th was to be my red letter day while fishing at Holt Fleet Farm Fishery, I was to have a great days fishing and also break my personal best carp weight.

On my way home from Hereford last year I passed the fishery while heading for Larford Lakes,I did not call in but promised to have a look this year while down in Hereford for our yearly trip.

At the end of the day I was glad that I had chose to fish this fishery, Steve and myself had made the trip over from Little Marcle and decided to fish Georges Pool.

First photo above shows my peg on arrival at the pool, weather looked good and we thought we were in for a pleasant day, how wrong we were.

Second photo shows my peg fifteen minutes into our session, this was the day that this area had torrential rain & floods. With thunder and lightening all around we decided to sit in the van till the weather calmed down .

Forty five minutes later we could eventually leave the safety of the van, within an hour it was like a summers day..

With the weather calmer Steve & Myself had a steady day catching decent size skimmers, bream & small carp.

For the final part of the day I decided to try prawn in the margins, it wasn't long before I hit into a large carp, this pulled out my elastic for a good way, eventually it turned around towards me, it was a good tussle on the pole and took a while to land, I did not weigh it but guessed at about 12 to 15lbs.

With one large carp on the bank I was over the moon,I soon put my rig back in the water and could not believe it when the float shot under,I saw the fish take off and with elastic screaming out of the pole I feared the worse, luck was on my side as the elastic held the fish.

This fish was bigger than the first and it took a while to overcome it,photo below shows a 17lbs 3 oz mirror carp, my new PB.

I would like to thank John from Walsall, one of the baliffs at Holt Fleet for taking the time to land both fish, weigh the second and take two great photos, thanks a lot John .

We will be definately going back to Holt fleet next year, superb fishing to be had
