Heskin Old Hall Farm February 2013

February 2nd 2013 and the trio were heading for Heskin Old Hall Farm near Wrightington, it look's like we have been lucky with the snow and ice this year, only frozen off once.

Steve and Nelson had gone up an hour before me, when I arrived at the fishery I found them on pool two, there had been a severe overnight frost and the pool had a layer of ice on it, one part was free and had about three fishable pegs.

Pool two looked rather cold, so I had a wander upto pool one and feared the worst,I was pleasantly surprised when I got to the pool, it was a good few degrees warmer and virtually no ice.The sun was also shining and I chose to fish this pool.

I was the only angler on the pool and decided to try out my new Middy 4G 11 foot waggler rod and Shimano Technum 2500 reel, I've been using the waggler quite a lot over the winter period with good results.

Reel line was Drennan Supplex 5lbs .18mm with Diawa 3lbs 18 inch hook length, float was a Drennan clear chrystal insert waggler 1 1/2 AA + and Drennan size 20's red hook.

I set the waggler to 4 inch overdepth with single red maggot on the hook, this pool is well stocked and I was hoping for a good day's fishing.

Weather was bright but cold, from my first cast in I had none stop action all day, fishing at about 16 metres I was catching roach & skimmers.Nelson joined me later and he had a small mirror carp of about 2lbs.This pool has trees around and when the wind got up in the afternoon we were sheltered.

The rod and reel worked very well and I had a great days fishing, the fish were feeding saying it's February and very cold.Double red maggot and single caster also worked later in the day.
