Heskin Old Hall Fishery February 2016

My Latest venture out was to Heskin Hall Fishery near Wrightington. It's a couple of years since I have fished here, but if you want good silver fishing it's a place to visit.I paid my peg fee at the hut and made my way up the field to pool one.

The way up the field was hard going due to all the rain we had recently,it was muudy and when I got to my peg I was huffing and puffing a little.I chose a peg that would allow me to use the pole at 10mtrs with good room behind.Weather was bright and sunny but a cold 8 degrees.

I set up two swims one at 12 o'clock and one at 2 o'clock.Rig set up was a drennan roach float with 3lb mainline to a12 inch 2lb hooklength and a size 20 kamasan B611 hook.A bulk set at 18 inch from the hook with two droppers on the hooklength.Depth of swim was 5 feet 2 inch at around 10 metres

From my first put in on pinky it was a fish a chuck, pinky brought small roach but by stepping up to caster the stamp size was better.I fished dead depth to start and had roach & skimmers with the odd bream.I sprinkled in a few micro pellets and hemp to keep the fish in the swims.

After catching loads of silvers I decided to have a go in the margins for some of the carp in the pool, I shallowed up using a drennan caster float and it wasn't long before I had a small carp on maggot.I kept throwing a few maggots in every now and again and I managed to catch another two carp.

Even though it was a cold day the fish had fed and I had a good days fishing.

Day ticket was £5
