The Cunneries Fishery March 2012

Saturday 17th March saw Nelson & myself heading for The Cunneries Fishery Eccleston.Having fished over winter with not much to write home about, I was hoping that we would be among some good fish.

We were first on the main pool and had a choice of any peg, we opted for two we have both fished before at the far end of the second island.

There were signs of fish up in the water, with plenty of swirls and splashing while we set up.

My plan for today was to start short of the island at 11 metres on 4mm soft pellet, later I was going to try maggot and casters at 13 metres upto the island, and finally for the last hour in the margins with maggot again.

With the sounds of birds singing all around me I potted in a few micro pellets and put a 4mm white candy pellet on the hook.

It wasn't long before I had my first fish a skimmer of about a 1lb, there were signs of fish feeding with bubbles rising around my float.

The float was going under every time I put in and I was catching skimmers & roach. The float burried again and I caught one of the new carp that have been introduced, several more followed of different sizes and colours .

Nelson was among the chub near the island and was catching a fish every time he put in,he also caught a good sized common carp .

The final hour saw me down the side in the margins hoping for a bonus carp, double maggot on the hook was producing good sized skimmers & bream,my best being around the 2lb mark.

The weather had been unsettled all day but as we packed up it was glorious and we did not want to leave, today was possibly the best day of the season so far.

Day ticket was £6.
