First carp of 2011

January/February 2011

Once again we've had another hard winter and fishing has been hard going. The Saturday trio have been out over this period but catches have not been great. We are now in February, and with the weather warming slightly, recent catches have been a lot better, I don't have a great deal to write about so this article is to tell of the fisheries and dates we have fished so far.

We have visited the Cunneries Fishery at Eccleston and had some good sport with the resident chub, further visits are planned for the warmer months to this popular fishery, so we will have to be up early.

The visit to Cobden Mill at Walkden was not very good, it was a bitterly cold day and not knowing the fishery we chose the wrong pegs which were not very deep, only Steve H caught this day.

A visit also to our regular haunt Heskin Old Hall Farm produced plenty of roach & skimmers and Nelson was fortunate to catch a winter carp

2011 Outings

My Shimano Carp Cruncher pole was given it's first test at Whitedoor Dam last week, I caught my first carp of the year approx 4 to 5 lbs using very light elastic. I did not expect to be among the carp that day and was surprised at my catch, the pole handles really well and later in the year I will write an article about it
